The Story Behind BRS Academy

BRS Academy, founded by Maya Ravinder from Hyderabad in the year 2015 is a premier chess academy driven to nurturing and helping young minds in the game of chess. This was initially a local initiative which has now grown into a world-class chess training platform, especially after everyone moved to online classes during the COVID-19 lockdown. The academy provides children with tailored training providing them skills and strategies needed to succeed in competitive chess.

The founder of BRS, Maya Ravinder (a B.COM and B.Ed graduate) has a deep passion for education and learning that led her to bring a unique perspective to chess training. As a strategic chess coach with extensive experience in training children for competitive sports, Maya teaches not only chess skills but also enhances mental resilience and strategic thinking in her students. Maya, who is inspired by the achievements of chess legends like Vishwanathan Anand, Koneru Humpy, and Pullela Gopichand, envisioned BRS academy to be a place where young chess enthusiasts could receive top-tier guidance. Her graduation from the prestigious Indian School of Business (ISB) strengthened her dedication for excellence thus shaping her leadership and vision for the academy.

    I’m Raghava, a chess coach and outdoor enthusiast with a passion for teaching and mentoring. With a BEd program background, I specialize in creating an engaging learning environment, helping students develop not only their chess skills but also their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Over the years, I’ve led chess workshops and camps, guiding players of all levels to improve their game.

    I’ve been playing chess since a very young age, driven by a deep passion for the game and a commitment to fostering youth development in chess. With a peak FIDE rating of 1560, I’ve competed in and won several prestigious tournaments, including FIDE-rated events Chess Schools program in 2016 and consistently staying active within the chess community. Over the past two years, I’ve dedicated myself to coaching, helping young players build their skills and achieve success in school-level, open, and FIDE-rated tournaments.

    I’m Madhava, a dedicated chess coach with three years of experience helping players enhance their skills and love for the game. Having competed at the state level and represented my school and college in tournaments, I bring firsthand competitive insights to my teaching. I also coach at a prominent chess club in Bangalore and am a certified chess arbiter, ensuring my students learn both the art and rules of the game.
